25th Anniversary Our Whole Lives

Pastor's Monthly Reflections

November 2007

at last a cool morning

rain falling gently

making a bright green and supple thing

out of the baked white-clay slab

that was my back yard

new day beginning

new season at last

season of respite

season of wet

season of softening stillness

thank you, God

elsewhere the devouring fires

elsewhere the battle

elsewhere the drowned field and the disappearing ice

elsewhere the Loving Heart

wanders, seeking out the wounded

wanders, seeking out the homeless child the homeless bear

elsewhere the Broken Heart

wanders among the broken-hearted

looking for sheep, for coins, for her lost children

throughout the world the Broken Heart

seeks the broken-hearted

and finding, stoops to bind, to soothe, to heal

thank you, God

here, a cool morning

rain falling gently

making a bright green and supple thing

out of the baked white-clay slab

that was my heart

new day beginning

new season at last

season of respite

season of wet

season of softening stillness

thank you, God
