Christian Education programs in the New Ark United Church of Christ are offered for youth from preschool age through senior high school age. Our preschool class, for children from age 3 through age 5, meets in the sanctuary for a short time in order for the children to be present during Children’s Time before leaving with their teacher for a session in the classroom during the Worship Hour. Preschool class dismisses at 10:30, and parents may pick up their children following the worship service. This class is held in the Christian Education Annex. Many parents of younger school-age children who are not quite ready to sit through an entire service take advantage of our Kinderkirk program. This program, for children age 6 through grade 2, also meets in the sanctuary until Children’s Time is over. These children may then leave the sanctuary for quiet games, stories, projects and play while their parents attend worship. This program meets in the Kinderkirk room next to the sanctuary. Several classes are offered during our regular Christian Education hour, from 11:00 to 12:00. These classes meet in our Christian Education Annex. Our primary class is for children in grades Kindergarten through grade 3. The juniors class is for youth in grades 4 through 8. A Senior High class, for grades 9 through 12, also meets at this time. Grades K-6: "Worshipping Together" The Christian Education program for children during September (16th, 23rd, 30th) and the first Sunday of October (7th) will explore worship - what it is, how we participate together, and how we each can contribute to worship (including planning worship) - no matter our age. The classes will be taught by Peggy Dillner, Susan Yetman and Anita Wellner. Kindergarten through sixth grade and any interested young people and their parents (strictly voluntary, since adult CE will also be discussing worship ) are invited. Each class will have an opening worship time, lots of participation and plenty of time to ask those questions about how we do stuff and WHY?! The four classes will be:
We hope this will be a learning experience which will enrich our worship together as the children prepare to be a part of the entire service on the second Sunday of each month.
Grades 7-12: "Just Neighbors" For the first nine weeks of the year, we'll be looking at the video series "Just Neighbors", which will help us understand the lives of people who experience poverty. The church adults saw some of these videos during the Habitat build week and found them to be very interesting and informative. Our in-care student, Mike Williams will be leading this series.
